💻 Apple unleashes new MacBook Pro

More powerful than ever

Hey Waivly Crew! 🌊 During Apple’s Unleashed event today we got to see the new MacBook Pro, AirPods 3, and more. Disney has announced it has delayed the release date of multiple Marvel films.

The biggest announcements from Apple’s Unleashed event

Apple’s Unleashed event just wrapped up, and it included pretty much everything we expected. Here are the biggest announcements made during the stream.

New MacBook Pro

Apple revealed the MacBook Pro, with M1 Pro and M1 Max Apple silicon chips, available in 14-inch and 16-inch models. Both models have a new keyboard that has physical function keys replacing the Touch Bar. The 14-inch model starts at $1,999, while the 16-inch model starts at $2,499. Upgrades are available for the chip, SSD, and memory upgrades, with a fully upgraded 16-inch MacBook Pro costing a pricey $6,099.

Mixed feelings on the notch

The design is noticeably different from previous MacBook Pro's, as the display is now 24 percent thinner at 3.55m thick, and there is a notch at the top of the display, similar to the notch design the iPhone uses. Within the notch, a 1080p webcam is featured, known as the FaceTime Camera, which has an “advanced image signal processor with computational video.”

AirPods 3 are official

Apple has finally announced the highly anticipated AirPods 3, and they have "an all-new design inside and out." Taking inspiration from the AirPods Pro, they feature smaller stems and touch controls along with an increased battery life of 30 hours.

Disney delays multiple Marvel movies

Disney has recently announced that they will be pushing back the release date of multiple Marvel films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor Love and Thunder, and many other upcoming Marvel projects.

Why the shift in release dates?

Deadline has reported that Disney has removed two Marvel films that were originally slated to release on July 28, 2023 and October 6, 2023. The removal of the films does not mean that they are cancelled completely but instead Disney has yet to decide on their new release dates. Disney has stated that the release date changes are due to certain titles "contending with finishing scenarios while others are still in production."

Not all movies effected

Most of the recent release changes strictly affect Disney's movie slates and not the remaining MCU films that are set to be released this year, such as Eternals and Spider-Man No Way Home. Both are still on track to release on November 5th and December 17th.

What are the new release dates?

  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - Delayed from March 25, 2022 to May 6, 2022

  • Thor: Love and Thunder - Delayed from May 6, 2022 to July 8, 2022

  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Delayed from July 8, 2022 to November 11, 2022

  • Indiana Jones 5 - Delayed from July 29, 2022 to June 30, 2023

  • The Marvels - Delayed from November 11, 2022 to February 17, 2023

  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - Delayed from February 17, 2023 to July 28, 2023

  • Untitled Marvel - Moved forward from November 10, 2023 to November 3, 2023.

Foxconn shows off three EV prototypes

Earlier today, Foxconn revealed three electric vehicle prototypes, including two sedans and an electric bus.

Keep an eye out

At its HHTD21 event, Taiwan's Foxconn showed off its first three electric vehicle prototypes for the first time, along with its ambitious plans to move away from its role of building consumer electronics for Apple and other companies. The company stated it is "no longer the new kid in town" when it comes to EVs and aims to develop a business worth up to $NT 1 trillion.

Making big moves

The Taiwanese contract manufacturer, most known for building iPhones for Apple, first three electric vehicles include the Model C crossover, Model E sedan, and Model T bus, all currently in the prototype stage. In the past, Ford has sued other automakers for using the Model E name, such as Tesla, claiming that it is too similar to Model T, so there’s a chance Foxconn may end up changing its vehicle names in the future.

Collab with Yulon Motor

Foxconn’s EV prototypes have been developed under the Foxtron brand in collaboration with Yulon Motor and uses Foxconn's open software and hardware platform, MIH Consortium, which serves as reference designs that companies can produce to their own needs.

Luxury performance

Foxtron's Model C is an electric SUV that will be available in Taiwan by 2023 with high efficiency 3.8 second 0-to-62 MPH speeds which will cost around $NT 1 million ($35,700). The Model E is a luxury performance sedan that offers 750 horsepower and delivers a 0-62 MPH time of 2.8 seconds, along with a 750 km range.
