Epic Games acquires Rock Band creator Harmonix

Epic Games has announced its latest acquisition: Harmonix, the studio behind the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series.

According to a joint statement, Harmonix will be working with Epic to create musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite. The studio will still support its existing games and release new downloadable content for Rock Band 4.

This acquisition makes perfect sense for Epic, as the company has been known for hosting virtual concerts inside of Fortnite in collaboration with Ariana Grande, Deadmau5, Marshmello, and other artists.

Over the past year, Epic has raised over $1 billion to invest in the metaverse, so Harmonix will be able to help Epic reach its goal of building the metaverse even faster.

“Now, we’ll be working with Epic to once again challenge expectations as we bring our unique brand of musical gaming experiences to the metaverse, and we couldn’t be more excited,” the blog states.

Apple delays release of digital ID cards to 2022

Apple is delaying the release of a feature that will allow you to store your ID in its Wallet app.

In an update to the official iOS 15 website, spotted by MacRumors, Apple says the functionality will now arrive sometime at the start of 2022. Originally the feature was set to launch later this year.

Apple first announced the feature at WWDC 2021 and explained that the tool would allow iPhone and Apple Watch owners to add their driver’s license to their Apple Wallet, similar to how you add a credit or debit card.

At launch, only select Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at US airports will support the feature, allowing users to present their ID to the TSA simply by tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch on an identity reader.
