Celsius founder Alex Mashinsky seeks dismissal of FTC case
Alex Mashinsky, founder and former CEO of now-bankrupt crypto lender Celsius, is seeking to have the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) drop its case against him βin its entirety.β
βββββ βββββββ ββ
In aΒ court filingΒ Monday, Mashinsky's lawyers argued that the allegations do not support a claim that he knowingly made a misstatement to "fraudulently obtain customer information from a financial institution."
βββββ βββββββ ββ
Specifically, Mashinsky's legal team argued that the accusations do not meet the standards for a claim under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. This 1999 law requires knowingly making false claims to collect customer information fraudulently from a financial institution.
βββββ ββ
The lawyers further argued that βin addition to the fact that Celsius is in bankruptcy and entered into a settlement agreement with the FTCβ¦, the Complaint cannot substantiate a claim that Mashinsky βis violatingβ or is βabout to violateβ the law because Mashinsky resigned from his position as CEO of Celsius in September 27, 2023.β
βββββ ββ
Celsius was one of the largest crypto-lending platforms before itΒ collapsedΒ in 2022. The founder resigned as CEO in September of that year, and by the end of 2022, the U.S. Justice Department had indicted the former CEO on multiple charges of fraud.Β

Mashinsky has pleaded not guilty to several charges filed against him and is out on bail on a $40 million personal recognizance bond.

Apple reveals iPhone 15 with USB-C charging port
At Apple's Wonderlust event on Tuesday, the company announced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, featuring aΒ USB-CΒ port, theΒ Dynamic Island, an improved 48MP main camera, and more.
βββββ ββ βββββ ββ
Like last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus sport 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. The big change this year is that the notch is gone, replaced by the "Dynamic Island" that Apple first brought to the iPhone 14 Pro lineup last year.Β
βββββ ββ
Another big change to the display is that it's brighter than ever before β the peak brightness in sunlight reaches 2,000 nits, while HDR video playback goes up to 1,600 nits.
βββββ ββ
The iPhone 15 also has a new 48-megapixel main camera, a notable improvement from last year's 12-megapixel main camera. This means that it can do 2x zoom without having a dedicated telephoto camera.
βββββ ββ
As expected, the device is powered by the A16 bionic chip, which features a six-core GPU. The chip also delivers Ultra Wideband, which offers improved FindMy functionality β similar to the new Apple Watch Series 9.
βββββ ββ
The iPhone 15 is priced starting at $799 for a 128GB model, and the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899 for a 128GB version. Pre-sales start on Friday, September 15, and they'll be available in stores on September 22.

βββββ ββ
βThrough this project, weβll support researchers, organize convenings, and foster debate on public policy solutions to encourage the responsible development of AI," Google's Director of Product Impact Brigitte Gosselink wrote.
βββββ ββ
