Apple is creating a mixed-reality headset

Expected to cost $3,000

According to reports, Apple’s mixed-reality headset that offers both AR and VR might be launching in 2022.

For years there have been rumours that Apple is working on a VR or AR headset that can handle "high-quality" VR games with both fast chips and high-res displays. A report earlier this year mentioned the mixed-reality headset would have two ultra-high-resolution 8K displays for each eye and cost somewhere around $3,000.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman talked about the headset in his most recent newsletter, Power On, writing, “Apple’s first headset will be of the mixed reality variety. That means it will have both AR and VR capabilities. While gaming can be done in both environments, virtual reality is what you want for seriously high-performance games with top-tier graphics.”

Last year, Apple acquired virtual reality company NextVR, making it clear that the company is dedicated to creating virtual reality and related augmented reality technology.
