Apple restricts use of OpenAI's ChatGPT for employees
Citing concerns about confidential data leaks
Apple has restricted employees from using artificial intelligence (AI) tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT over fears confidential information entered into these systems will be leaked.
According to a document reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, employees have also been advised not to use GitHub’s AI programming assistant, Copilot.
Last month, OpenAI introduced a new privacy feature that enables users to switch off their chat histories so that their conversations can't be used for training.
However, even with this setting enabled, OpenAI still retains conversations for 30 days to “monitor for abuse” before it permanently deletes them.
Apple’s ban came on the same day OpenAI launched an iOS app for ChatGPT. The app is free to use, supports voice input, and is available in the U.S.
