Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Otherside launch didn’t go to plan
Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Ape Yacht Club, launched a sale on Saturday night of virtual land related to its metaverse project, Otherside. However, everything didn’t exactly go to plan.
⠀
At 9 PM ET on Saturday, Yuga Labs sold NFTs called "Otherdeeds" to give buyers rights to claim plots of virtual land in its upcoming metaverse belonging to the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem called “Otherside.”
⠀
There were 55,000 Otherdeeds for sale, all of which could be bought with the project’s native token, ApeCoin. As anticipated, the Otherdeeds immediately sold out for 305 ApeCoin each (around $5,800), plus gas fees in Ether, which skyrocketed after the sale went live.
⠀
While the drop brought in 16.7 million ApeCoin ($317 million), according to data from Etherscan, collectors buying Otherseed NFTs paid an additional 64,000 Ether in gas fees, totalling $179.3 million in the first 24 hours.

⠀
“Yuga Labs’ virtual land sale has triggered one of the highest spikes in transaction fees on Ethereum,” said Jason Wu, founder of decentralized lending protocol DeFiner. “I have seen other NFT launches causing high gas fees, but this is definitely one of the highest.”
⠀
Yuga Labs later apologized for the disaster, noting the mint was “so large that Etherscan crashed” and suggested that ApeCoin should be mitigated to its own blockchain to avoid similar issues in the future. The team also promised to reimburse gas fees for the thousands of users that experienced failed transactions.
Telegram allows its users to send crypto
Messaging app Telegram now allows users to send crypto payments using Toncoin within the app, according to a recent tweet from TON (The Open Network).
⠀
TON has stated that all Toncoin transactions will now be supported on Telegram without any attached fees. To send Toncoin within the Telegram app, users will have to add Telegram’s Wallet bot onto the users’ attachment menu, which would allow them to buy cryptocurrency using a bank card, exchange the crypto, and even transfer them into other wallets.
⠀
After the Wallet bot is added, the user goes to the Wallet menu from the attachment tab in a chat, enters the amount of Toncoin they want to send, and confirms all the information. Once the user confirms all the information, they can send the crypto payment.
⠀
The addition of the new crypto payment feature on Telegram will not only allow users to send crypto but also allow them to purchase bitcoin within the app, according to Protocol.
⠀
TON is a blockchain-based decentralized computer network technology that manages Toncoin as its own crypto token. TON was originally developed by the Telegram team but had to abandon the project due to facing pressures from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Despite Telegram abandoning the project, a group of developers stuck with the project and renamed it The Open Network.

Beijing grants first driverless robotaxi licenses to Baidu and Pony.ai
Chinese regulators have granted online search company Baidu and Toyota-backed Pony.ai to deploy their autonomous vehicles without safety drivers in Beijing.
⠀
The permits allow the companies to offer rides with only a safety supervisor in the front passenger within a 23 square mile area in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. Pony.ai plans to deploy four driverless vehicles under the new permit and is expected to add more in the future.
⠀
“Pony.ai’s approval to operate driverless robotaxis in Beijing is a critical milestone in the transition from testing driverless autonomous vehicles within Pony.ai to offering driverless robotaxi rides to public passengers,” said James Peng, co-founder, and CEO of Pony.ai.
⠀
Anyone in the area can now order a driverless robotaxi from either company, where they will be eligible to be picked up or dropped off at locations including subway stations, parks, stadiums, business centres, and residential areas.
⠀
Pony.ai also obtained a taxi licence in Guangzhou last week, allowing 100 of its robotaxis to start charging fares for rides in the southern city's Nansha district.
