After a few years of not having BlizzCon, video game development company Blizzard has indicated that they are committed to bringing back the event in 2023.
Blizzard’s boss, Mike Ybarra, told the LA Times that they have previously announced that they are pausing BlizzCon as they reimagine it for the future, they want it to return to a live event that will enable the company to celebrate its community. Ybarra further explains that the company has hired a new BlizzCon leader named April McKee, who is working on a plan to bring back the event in 2023.
As of right now, there is no official date or any information as to when in 2023 BlizzCon will return. The last time that Blizzard hosted BlizzCon was back in November of 2019. The 2020 and 2021 BlizzCon events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Blizzard did host a virtual event called BlizzConline in 2021.
With the pandemic halting in-person gaming events such as BlizzCon over the past couple of years, many will soon return in 2023, including E3 and Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest.
