Jason Citron, founder and CEO of Discord, has hinted that platform might be integrating the Ethereum network via wallets such as MetaMask.
In reply to a blog talking about Discord’s future, Citron posted an image showing a test version of the app that allows users to connect to Ethereum. The screenshot also shows the option for users to connect your Discount accounts with their MetaMask wallet or WalletConnect account.
Citron replied to a tweet from Patrick Beyond, the founder of Not Boring Capital and Not Boring newsletter. In the newsletter, he went into detail about the possibilities for Discord’s future.
“Discord also seems to have built up server density around education, investing, and crypto and web3. We can understand the company’s success with these groups through a similar lens — these are groups that are fundamentally internet-native,” he wrote.
The news resulted in backlash from the majority of users, claiming they would end their Discord Nitro subscription if crypto integration gets introduced. However, some users believe implementing crypto and NFTs into Discord would be a step in the right direction for the gaming scene.
