Epic launches Fortnite Party Worlds for socializing
Continuing its focus on the metaverse
Epic Games is taking a step further into the metaverse with Fortnite Party Worlds, maps that are solely intended as spaces for friends to socialize.
Fortnite first launched solely focusing on its battle royale game mode, but recently Epic has shared its strong ambitions for a Fortnite metaverse. Party Worlds will be designed as places for players to hang out, play fun mini-games, and make new friends.
Unlike Hubs, these worlds don’t link to other islands and focus on socializing over combat and damage. Epic has noted these virtual spaces "should have a high focus on self-expression through emotes, sprays, outfit changes, or other mechanics," and that they should "encourage social interaction, giving people a way to make new friends or team up with existing friends in new ways."
For its launch, two Party worlds have been developed with community members Fivewalnut and TreyJTH. Fivewalnut's social space is called Walnut World and is an amusement park focused on hanging out with friends. The second, called Late Night Lounge, has a nightclub vibe, making it the perfect place to relax.
