FIFA to launch NFT platform on Algorand
In run-up to World Cup
FIFA, the global governing body of football, is launching a new NFT platform in anticipation of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The platform, FIFA+ Collect, is set to launch later this month with a range of initial collections and further details on upcoming exclusive and limited-edition collections, according to a press release published Friday.
The digital collectibles will represent some of the greatest moments from football matches and feature iconic art and imagery from the FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments.
FIFA’s NFT platform will run on Algorand, a low-cost, carbon-neutral blockchain developed by MIT professor Silvio Micali. In May, Alorgand became FIFA’s official blockchain partner.
“Fandom is changing and football fans around the world engage with the game in new and exciting ways,” said Romy Gai, FIFA's chief business officer. “This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectibles available to any football fan, democratizing the ability to own a part of the FIFA World Cup.”
