GameStop has big plans for NFTs
Stock soars after the news
After posting Web3 and NFT job applications on its career site back in October, GameStop has hired a team to build an NFT marketplace and establish crypto partnerships.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, GameStop has hired over 20 people to run its new unit, which will build an online hub for buying, selling, and trading videogame NFTs such as avatar clothing, weapons, and other collectibles.
The retailer is asking select game developers and publishers to list NFTs on its marketplace when it launches later this year and is set to close deals with multiple crypto companies to share technologies and develop blockchain games in the future.
Investors seem to be fully behind GameStop’s NFT and crypto plans, as at the time of writing, the company’s stock is up 22.49% after-hours.
