Robinhood to bring out wallet for Web3

Robinhood is releasing a new wallet designed for Web3. The current wallets Robinhood users use are custodial, meaning that they are managed on the backend by Robinhood, however, these new wallets will be non-custodial, and entirely powered through Web3.

These new wallets will be similar to that of MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet and give users full control over their private keys and assets. On top of this and being able to trade NFTs on the platform, there is said to be zero.. yes, zero, gas fees.

“At Robinhood, we believe that crypto is more than just an asset class. Our web3 wallet will make it easier for everyone to hold their own keys and experience all the opportunities that the open financial system has to offer.”, Robinhood said in a statement.

The company is aiming to launch a beta version of the wallet this Summer.

Linktree is rolling out new NFT features

Linktree, the widely used and popular link-in-bio platform, is introducing new ways for its users to bring their community into Web3 and make their link-in-bio even more engaging with NFT features.

The new features include an NFT Gallery, which allows users to display all NFTs they own, NFT profile pictures and background images, and NFT "locks," a unique tool that gives creators the option to lock their links using a smart contract address.

Only users who own NFTs from a particular collection can unlock the link by connecting their wallets to prove ownership. Linktree believes this tool allows creators to “make the distribution of benefits easier”.

Alex Zaccaria, co-founder and CEO of Linktree, made a statement surrounding these new changes and the space, saying: “Web3 and the power of blockchain have granted creators exciting ways to monetize their passions and build their communities. As the creator ecosystem migrates towards this new iteration of the internet, we’re excited for Linktree to provide a home for creators to aggregate their digital assets and showcase what’s important to them.”

Panama President refuses to endorse crypto regulation bill

Panama’s President Laurentino Cortizo refuses to endorse a law regulating the use of cryptocurrency until it includes stricter anti-money laundering controls.

“If I’m going to answer you right now, at this moment, the information that I have — which is not enough — I will not sign that law, at this moment,” Cortizo said on stage at the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Latin America conference on May 18.

The nation’s legislative assembly passed the bill last month, which if signed into law, would make it easier for cryptocurrency exchanges to obtain licenses to operate in the country and regulates transactions in digital currencies.

President Cortizo shared his reason for his decision at the conference, explaining the bill would need to sufficiently take action against unlawful activities like money laundering in the sector:

“I have to be very careful if the law has clauses related to money-laundering activities or anti-money laundering activities,” he added. “That’s very important for us.”

The president explained his legal team would spend time analysing the bill to recommend whether to pass it fully or partially as written.

Ethereum Merge expected to come in August

At the Permissionless conference yesterday, Ethereum core developer Preston Van Loon told attendees that the network’s transition to proof-of-stake will occur in August ‘if everything goes to plan.’

"As far as we know, if everything goes to plan, August—it just makes sense," said Van Loon. "If we don't have to move [the difficulty bomb], let's do it as soon as we can."

Ethereum Foundation Justin Drake, also on the panel, shared there’s a “strong desire to make this happen before difficulty bomb in August," according to a tweet from event co-host Bankless.

The “difficulty bomb” is a code adjustment made by Ethereum developers in 2016 with the Merge in mind. In simple terms, it will slow down the network to encourage developers to push forward with the Merge while discouraging miners to stay behind on the proof-of-work mechanism after the upgrade.

This news comes a little over a month after Ethereum Foundation developer Tim Beiko announced on Twitter that the Merge would come in the latter half of 2022 instead of June as promised.

“It won't be June, but likely in the few months after,” he shared in a tweet. No firm date yet, but we're definitely in the final chapter of PoW on Ethereum.”

Honda teases its 2024 Prologue electric SUV

The car manufacturing company, Honda, has recently released an image of their first electric SUV, the Prologue. The Prologue will be Honda’s first battery-electric SUV sold in the United States.

The upcoming electric SUV will be the first of two vehicles that Honda has co-developed with General Motors. The 2024 Prologue electric SUV will be utilizing General Motors’ Ultium battery packs.

It is expected to go on sale in 2024, which will mark Honda’s first wave of production of 30 hybrids, battery-electric, and fuel cell vehicles that are expected to release by 2030.

Some of the electric vehicles that Honda is producing will be built on various electric vehicle architectures. While some will be built in collaboration with General Motors, such as the Prologue and the Acura electric vehicles.

There is not much new information about the new Acura electric vehicle that is being developed with General Motors, but we know that it will be built using General Motors’ Ultium platform. The production of these electric vehicles is a part of Honda’s efforts in producing and rolling out more affordable electric vehicles and SUVs.
