Meta last year announced at Connect that they would be adding a hang-out option to its Quest virtual reality headset. Now it will begin to roll out with its v41 update, which is expected to come next week.

The hangout feature is called Horizon Home, which allows Quest VR owners to put on their headsets and directly invite other Quest users to participate in social experiences in the metaverse. Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg released a video showcasing a demo of the system alongside Alex Honnold, the Free Solo climber.

According to Zuckerberg, Quest users will have more options to customize their Home space, but those options are “currently in development.” Horizon Home is similar to Meta’s Facebook Spaces, which was a 2017 app where Facebook users could play minigames with their friends and even take virtual selfies with them. Meta shut down Spaces back in 2019 to clear the way for Horizon. The addition of Horizon would allow Quest to be a more social experience rather than a solitary one.
