Microsoft extends multi-billion dollar partnership with OpenAI
Microsoft on Monday announced a new “multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment” in OpenAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) research lab behind ChatGPT and DALL·E 2.
The deal marks the third phase of the partnership between the two companies, following Microsoft’s previous investments in 2019 and 2021.
“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
“In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications,” he added.
According to the blog post, the renewed partnership will see Microsoft increase its investments in the development and deployment of supercomputing systems to assist OpenAI’s research.
The tech giant’s Azure cloud platform will continue to be OpenAI’s exclusive cloud provider, powering the startup’s workloads across research, products, and API services.
Microsoft did not disclose the size of the investment, but multiple reports claim the company will invest $10 billion over "multiple years."
Doodles to buy animation studio Golden Wolf
Web3 media brand Doodles has agreed to acquire award-winning animation studio Golden Wolf, according to a Deadline report.
The financial terms of the deal were not revealed, but it is expected to close in the next few weeks. Once complete, Golden Wolf’s team will join Doodles. The animation studio’s CEO and founder, Ingi Erlingsson, will take on a new role as Doodles’ Chief Content Officer.
“I’m thrilled by the idea of joining Burnt Toast and the rest of the Doodles team on this journey,” said Erlingsson. “This partnership will unlock boundless potential within each of our businesses, accelerating our goal of redefining entertainment through engaging storytelling and worlds.”
The acquisition will also see Doodles launch a new joint venture called “Active Ingredient.” Through Golden Wolf's pre-existing partnership with creative studio Psyop, it will aim to "reinvent storytelling and the tools used to make them a reality" via blockchain and AI technology, according to the report.
The joint venture will create tools and techniques for brands, filmmakers, and producers. As part of the deal, Psyop is investing in Doodles.
