Pokémon Go developer Niantic is creating a new augmented reality mobile game in partnership with the NBA and its players' association.
NBA All-world is a real-world mobile game that will bring basketball to life in all-new ways. Instead of Pokémon, players will be able to collect NBA players, customize them with items found in real-world locations, and challenge other players in one-on-one matches at their local court and other locations.
“This is where the NBA’s gaming and lifestyle meets the real world metaverse,” Marcus Matthews, the game’s senior producer, told media on Monday. “We’re enveloping the world around you into a basketball universe, or what I like to call turning the real world into a basketball theme park.”
The game is coming to both iOS and Android and is expected to roll out in full during the next NBA season. Niantic is taking registrations for beta testing on its website.
