On Monday, OpenSea announced the acquisition of Gem, an Ethereum NFT marketplace aggregator service.
⠀
Gem’s product allows users to buy NFTs across multiple marketplaces in a single low-cost transaction, making it easier to quickly sweep the floor of an NFT collection. Gem will continue to operate independently from OpenSea as a standalone product and brand.
⠀
In a blog post, OpenSea shared it acquired Gem in a push to bring the power and potential of NFTs to people across the world. OpenSea will integrate “the best of Gem’s features,” which include analytics tools, rarity rankings, and bundled purchasing.
⠀
“As the NFT community grows, we’ve recognized a need to better serve more experienced, ‘pro users,’ and offer more flexibility and choice to people at every level of experience,” OpenSea CEO Devin Finzer said.
⠀
Finzer also acknowledged the allegations against one of Gem’s pseudonymous core developers “Neso,” who was dismissed from the team after his fraught history of sexual assault allegations got discovered. BuzzFeed later revealed Neso’s true identity is Josh Thompson, a British Twitch streamer “who went by “MethodJosh.”
⠀
“We learned about, and immediately surfaced, some deeply concerning allegations against a now-former member of Gem’s leadership team who operated under the pseudonym Neso,” Finzer added. “This individual has never and will never be affiliated with OpenSea.”
