👨‍💻 OpenSea flaw let hackers steal crypto wallets

It got quickly spotted

Hey Waivly Crew! 🌊 Check Point Software has found flaws in OpenSea’s code which left users’ crypto wallets vulnerable to attacks. Iconic Star Trek actor William Shatner is now the oldest person to reach space at 90-years-old.

Security firm finds flaw in OpenSea's NFT code

A security firm has recently found vulnerabilities in the platform used by OpenSea, the largest marketplace for NFTs.

Critical vulnerability

Security research firm Check Point Software started investigating OpenSea when they noticed reports of stolen crypto wallets triggered by airdropped NFTs. During the investigation, they discovered that the site had a critical security vulnerability "that, if exploited, could have led hackers to hijack user accounts and steal entire crypto wallets of users, by sending malicious NFTs."

How did it work?

Multiple Twitter users talked to Check Point Research, claiming that they got hacked after being gifted NFTs, which led the firm to notice accounts could get attacked this way. The exploit relied on users approving malicious activity to connect their wallets through a third-wallet provider, which then gave hackers full access to their OpenSea account.

Quickly fixed

If you’re an NFT creator or collector on OpenSea, don’t worry, Check Point Software worked with the marketplace, and in less than an hour, the issue was fixed. OpenSea is also working with third-party wallet providers to make sure this isn’t possible again in the future.

William Shatner becomes the oldest person to reach space

It’s official, 90-year-old Star Trek actor William Shatner has become the oldest person to fly to space after yesterday's Blue Origin flight.

An exciting day

Captain Kirk has finally visited the final frontier in real life, onboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard along with Blue Origin VP Audrey Powers, Planet Labs co-founder Dr. Chris Boshuizen and Medidata co-creator Glen de Vries. This was the second flight of the year for Blue Origin had planned, and there’s still one more crewed mission to go before the year ends.

Out of this world

The New Shepard vehicle reached an altitude of around 350,00ft and a velocity of about 2,000mpg during the trip, giving Shatner the chance to enjoy the view and experience three minutes of weightlessness, before the capsule fell back towards Earth with a parachute.

Emotional experience

After they were safely back on the ground and talking, Shatner teared up while thanking Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, "What you have given me is the most profound experience. I'm so filled with emotion about what just happened. It's extraordinary. Extraordinary."

Pressure create diamonds

At Waivly, one of our favourite quotes is “Pressure makes diamonds,” and there’s a good reason for that.

Not the literal meaning

“Pressure makes diamonds” of course, has the literal meaning that diamonds form when exposed to extremely high pressure, but that’s not what everyone means when you see the quote. The people who thrive under pressure instead of avoiding it will always have a higher chance to succeed in anything in life.

A way to thrive

Without pressure, diamonds wouldn’t exist, the same way that without pressure, successful individuals wouldn’t thrive. Pressure can bring out the best part of people, and even if you can’t handle it and return to feeling comfortable, it will make you stronger.

It can be learnt

Not everyone can work and succeed when put under pressure naturally, but it is a skill that anyone can learn over time. No matter what, you will have to deal with stress and pressure throughout your life, so it’s important to learn how to channel and thrive when under it. Procrastination can be a cause for failing under pressure for a lot of people. To avoid this and eventually overcome it, some of the steps you can take is to stay organized, eliminate distractions, and most importantly, prioritize your most important work and goals.

Epic Games might be making a Fortnite movie

Epic Games is reportedly considering making a Fortnite film as a way to get into the entertainment scene.

Only a possibility

A report from The Information claims that discussions have taken place over the possibility of a Fortnite film adaptation, along with a chance Epic Games is in the process of "launching an entertainment division focused on scripted video programming" as a way to diversify the studio's brands.

No one better for the job

Three of top LucasFilm employees have joined Epic Games this year, including the film studio's former VP of physical production, Jason McGatlin, who is now president of Epic Games secret special projects division, along with Lynn Bartsch, head of business affairs, and Chris Furia, vice president of production finance, so the chance of a Fortnite movie is looking promising.

Not looking good

In other news, Apple has decided its lawsuit victory against Epic wasn’t enough and has asked for a stay on the judge’s September order saying Apple would have to allow apps to direct customers to external websites. Google has also filed a counterclaim in the Epic Games’ antitrust litigation against the company, denying Epic’s allegations of antitrust behavior and instead claims it’s owed relief.
