OpenSea surpasses $3.5B in monthly trading volume

With still two more weeks left in January, NFT marketplace OpenSea has recorded a new all-time high in monthly Ethereum trading volume.

⠀

According to data from Dune Analytics, OpenSea has now surpassed both the previous all-time of $3.42 billion recorded in August last year and the $3.24 billion in sales in December.

⠀

So far in January, OpenSea has broken $169 million in trading volume every day, with the platform's largest single-day volume of $261 million recorded on January 9th.

⠀

The price increase in Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) has played a big part in the surge. In addition, earlier this month, OpenSea announced a $300 million Series C funding round led by venture capital firms Paradigm and Coatue, bringing its valuation to $13.3B billion.

Spain set to regulate influencers that promote crypto

Spain Eyeing on Becoming the Crypto ATM Hub - TechStory

Spain has recently announced new rules on how social media influencers advertise cryptocurrency.

⠀

The new rule that the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) will implement on the promoting of crypto will begin to take effect next month. The new rule will require individuals and companies to notify the CNMV 10 days before the release of any campaigns for crypto assets. The rule will apply to influencers who have more than 100,000 subscribers and are getting paid to promote cryptocurrency to their audience.

⠀

Reuters has reported that crypto advertisers would need to release the content of a company or influencer’s upcoming crypto campaign to the CNMV as well as include warnings about the risks of what they are trying to sell. The new regulation rule is designed to allow the CNMV to monitor the marketing ecosystem around the promoting of crypto assets to audiences as well as make sure that companies disclose the risks of purchasing crypto assets.

⠀

The new rule will not stop any influencers from discussing cryptocurrency with their followers, but they will have to allow the Spanish National Securities Market Commission to keep tabs on what the influencer is promoting and offering to their audience.

AFLW

Singapore-based exchange platform Crypto.com has signed a sponsorship deal with the Australian Football League (AFL) worth $25 million (USD $18 million) over five years.

⠀

The deal introduces Crypto.com as the official crypto exchange of the AFL and the women’s AFLW league, as well as the league’s exclusive naming rights partner over the season’s games, according to a statement from Yesterday.

⠀

While Crypto.com has partnered with multiple sports teams in the past, the agreement will mark Crypto.com’s first time sponsoring an Australian sports team and the first deal signed with an elite women’s sports competition worldwide.

⠀

AFL Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial Kylie Rogers shared how proud she is over the milestone. “The AFL is proud to be the first Australian sports league and elite women’s competition globally to work alongside an organization that shares our passion to progress the future of elite sport and technology.” ⠀
