Roblox finally comes back online
After being hit with a three day outage
Roblox servers are now returning to normal following a major outage that lasted for three days.
Roblox, an online platform that lets users play and create games, first started to experience starting at around 7 PM ET on Thursday 28th. Roblox quickly responded, claiming it was “working hard to get things back to normal,” and that it had identified “the root cause as [an] internal system issue.”
At first, some players expected the outage was related to a Chipotle promotion in the game. Chipotle had planned to give away $1 million worth of free burritos in the game, and right after the experience went live at 6:30 PM ET, the outage started. Roblox went on to deny this theory on Twitter.
David Baszucki, Roblox founder and CEO, explained in a blog post why it took three days to fix the outage, saying, "Due to the difficulty in diagnosing the actual bug, recovery took longer than any of us would have liked. Upon successfully identifying this root cause, we were able to resolve the issue through performance tuning, re-configuration, and scaling back of some load. We were able to fully restore service as of this afternoon."
