👀 Square might build a Bitcoin mining system

CEO Jack Dorsey revealed

Hey Waivly Crew! 🌊 Square is looking into building a Bitcoin mining system that would improve accessibility to Bitcoin mining while being more energy-efficient. In a new statement, Twitch revealed that no login credentials or bank details got exposed in their recent breach.

Jack Dorsey says Square may build a Bitcoin mining system

Square CEO Jack Dorsey said late on Friday that Square might be building a system that can improve accessibility to Bitcoin mining and further decentralize the BTC network.

Big possibility

The idea was first revealed when Dorsey tweeted that Square, his financial services and digital payments company, is considering creating an open-source Bitcoin mining system based on custom silicon and open source for individuals and businesses worldwide.

Improve Bitcoin’s future

Dorsey believes mining needs to be more energy-efficient, as clean and efficient energy use would improve Bitcoin’s economics, impact, and scalability. He also said that Bitcoin mining should be more accessible to everyone, to the point it is as easy as plugging a rig into a power source.

For the community

Jesse Dorogusker, Square’s hardware lead, who previously worked on the launch of Square's hardware wallet and custody service, will start the deep technical investigation required for the project. According to Dorsey, the company will follow the method used to create its BTC hardware wallet, built in the open in collaboration with the community.

The biggest DC FanDome announcements

DC Comics and Warner Bros. held their second FanDome on Saturday, revealing trailers for upcoming movies and shows. Here are the most exciting announcements made during the event.

Batman is darker than ever

To end the event, the long-awaited first trailer of The Batman got revealed. It shows a peek at Robert Pattinson's darker portrayal of the superhero, along with more of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. Hints in the trailer point towards The Riddler being the main villain of The Batman, even though we never got to see him on screen.

A glimpse at Black Adam

Dwayne Johnston confirmed that the upcoming Black Adam is now in post-production, gave us a first look at the movie that reveals his ruthless character, Black Adam. Black Adam was originally set to debut in Shazam!, but Warner Bros decided to instead give the anti-hero a standalone film.

The Flash messes with the multiverse

The first footage from Andy Muschietti’s The Flash movie arrived at DC FanDome, and it is as good as we expected. Barry Allen is shown visiting his mother in another universe, and we now know Michael Keaton's return as Batman is certain, as he can be heard talking over the trailer, asking Barry, "Tell me something. You can go anywhere you want, right? Any timeline. Any universe. Why do you want to stay and fight to save this one?"

Twitch says no passwords were leaked in massive breach

Twitch has revealed no account passwords got leaked in its recent security breach.

Accounts are safe

In a blog post yesterday, the live streaming platform reassured that no account login details got exposed in the major security breach last week. Twitch said it's confident that the systems that login credentials, which are hashed with bcrypt, weren't accessed. Full credit card numbers are not stored by Twitch, so full credit card numbers were not exposed.

What was exposed?

"The exposed data primarily contained documents from Twitch's source code repository, as well as a subset of creator payout data. We've undergone a thorough review of the information included in the files exposed and are confident that it only affected a small fraction of users and the customer impact is minimal. We are contacting those who have been impacted directly," the company said.

Focus on revenue

After an anonymous hacker leaked Twitch’s source code in a 128GB file posted on October 6th, everyone’s attention instantly was focused on the top creator payouts that went back all the way to 2019. Since the breach, Twitch has undergone a review of the information and took action quickly to fix the configuration issue and secure their systems.
