Tesla app outage locks owners out of their cars

Affected owners around the world

Last night Tesla’s app servers went down, causing a worldwide app outage that prevented owners from using the app to open their cars.

Over 500 Tesla owners reported they faced an error 4:40 p.m. ET (21:40 GMT), according to outage monitoring website Downdetector, which tracks outages by collecting status reports from a series of sources, including reports submitted from user.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a Tesla owner’s tweet, who was experiencing a "500 server error" when he attempted to connect his Model 3 through the iOS app in Seoul, South Korea. “Should be coming back online now. Looks like we may have accidentally increased verbosity of network traffic. Apologies, we will take measures to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” Musk said.
