Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales is selling an NFT based on his first edit made to the site’s homepage after it first launched on back in 15th January 2001 2001.
⠀
Christie's is selling Jimmy Wales' first-ever edit as an NFT, which read “Hello, World!” during an auction titled “The Birth of Wikipedia," taking place from December 3rd to 15th.
⠀
The owner will get more than just the NFT, as it will come with the strawberry-coloured iMac computer Wales used to develop Wikipedia. Once bought, the code will launch publicly online, allowing the owner to edit it however they like and revert it back to its original appearance whenever they want.
⠀
"Wikipedia was founded on a vision to give free access to knowledge on a global scale, and I want to use whatever funds we raise to continue supporting efforts in the free culture world," Wales told Highsnobiety. "A decentralized, non-commercial social network free of advertising, tracking, information harvesting, and misinformation."
